Europe is entering the decisive year for the implementation of eFTI – electronic freight transport information. From 9 July 2027, Member State authorities must be able to accept freight information electronically through certified eFTI platforms, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2020/1056.
Across the major EU eFTI implementation projects, the common architecture, specifications and national implementation solutions are progressing. Several Member States have already moved towards developing and testing their eFTI Gates and authority systems.
However, implementation has faced repeated delays at European level, including the later-than-anticipated availability and continued evolution of key technical specifications and implementing elements. At the same time, readiness differs considerably between Member States.
The result is an increasingly compressed implementation period: countries must develop national systems while parts of the common European framework are still being finalised and aligned.
With less than a year remaining, 9 July 2027 is approaching quickly — and substantial implementation work still remains to be completed across Europe.
